Do not start with a universal value
Chase offers several redemption methods and card-specific terms. The relevant question is how many of your points the trip requires through each route. Portal offers and transfer ratios can differ by card and date; do not assume yesterday’s cents-per-point or transfer rate applies today.
Check card-specific Hyatt rules
Chase announced 4:3 Hyatt transfers for specified cardholders in 2026. Existing eligible Sapphire Preferred accounts transition on October 1; new applicants from June 15 use the new rate immediately. Our transfer tool includes that distinction.
Compare complete paths
Illustrative booking: a portal requires 32,000 bank points. A hotel award needs 24,000 hotel points plus $40. At a 4:3 transfer ratio, it also needs 32,000 bank points; the partner route is not automatically better just because its hotel-points number looks lower.
Then compare cancellation, benefits, availability and any rewards forgone. The cash alternative should be a booking you would really accept, not a more expensive room used to manufacture an impressive valuation.
A practical search order
- Price an acceptable cash booking directly.
- Check the logged-in portal points price and any eligible boost.
- Search the receiving loyalty program for the same stay or itinerary.
- Use the transfer calculator to convert the required award into source points.
- Read both sets of booking terms and transfer only after confirming space.
